about
Bytes is incredibly excited to announce the release of ‘Methuselah’, the fabulous new single from the Liverpool three-piece Seagoth, a taster of their forthcoming debut album, How to Stay Wide Awake, which will be released later this year. The single will be followed by a remix from Mute’s Maps, aka James Chapman, bringing his unique brand of euphoric, multi-layered electronica to the track.
‘Methuselah' is the latest leap forward from the ever-evolving trio that reveals their growing confidence, a New Age-inflected indie rock track that cuts deep from the start with its emphatic guitar riffs and fizzing electronic soundbed. It was written and produced by 22-year-old Georgia Ochoa (guitarist and lead vocals) at her home in Cheshire, and mixed by Leaf Troup (GLOK). The song represents “an important reminder to not fear the passage of time and instead work with it - as growth is the most important thing to life, and growth takes time,” says Georgia.
“Inspired by the biblical figure, Methuselah is a representation of my fear towards the passage of time,” Georgia continues. “I thought that the idea of a human living for almost a thousand years was such a perfect and ironic symbolism for my anxiety. It also made a pretty decent track name. I’m not necessarily a religious person and I don’t typically write about religion either, but learning about the lore really sparked my interest.”
Seagoth is Georgia, bassist and vocalist Hannah Gannon and drummer Oscar Hellewell. Inspired by alternative rock bands such as Tame Impala, Alt-J and MGMT, they have been praised for their genre-bending DIY sound and poetical lyricism, with recent singles, such as the politically charged rock anthem ‘Amorphous’ and the shimmering psych-rocker ‘Queen’, finding favour with BBC Introducing, Simone Marie at Soho Radio, Amazing Radio (‘Queen’ was record of the week on Frankie Francis’s Amazing Afternoons show) and John Kennedy at Radio X.
